Gauteng School Placement: How to reset Forgotten Password

Since Monday, 4 September 2023, more than 200 000 learners have received placement offers via the SMS medium.

With the placement of learners applying for Grade 1 and 8 at Gauteng Department of Education schools currently underway, some parents may be worried about the delays in receiving the SMSes.

THE GAUTENG PLACEMENT FIGURES SINCE MONDAY

Since Monday, 4 September, more than 200 000 learners have received placement offers via the SMS medium. Although the Gauteng Department of Education has urged parents/ guardians not to panic as the placements will continue until the end of the year, the fault could be with parents’ credentials on the web portal.

Forgotten password or Credentials may deprive the recipient from receiving information like the rest of the parents.

HOW TO RESET THE PASSWORD FROM THE GDE WEB PORTAL

If you’ve been failing to log onto the portal, here are a few ways to assist you:

  • Parents and guardians who may have forgotten or lost their credentials must
    click on “Forgot Password” on the landing page and follow the prompts to
    regain access to the system
  • Alternatively, parents and guardians are welcome to interact with our call centre
    agents on 0800 000 789 or WhatsApp us on 060 891 0361

PLACEMENT PROCESS RECAP

  • Placement Offers will be released to parents via SMS notification from 4 September 2023
    and throughout the year until all learners are placed
  • Offers must be accepted within 7 school days;
  • When a placement offer is received, applicant parents should log in to their profile on
    www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to accept the offer as final OR accept while awaiting other
    offers;
  • Parents may also visit District Offices OR schools for assistance to accept placement offers;
  • Applicants who do not accept offers within 7 school days will be auto-placed at
    the school that made an offer of placement;
  • It is important to note that placement is prioritised for applicants with verifiable home
    addresses within the school feeder zone and closest to the school and where space is
    available;
  • When schools reach full capacity, applicants will be offered placement offers from schools
    with available space.
