The lucky player hit the jackpot by correctly matching the five PowerBall Plus numbers plus the PowerBall drawn.

They were (in numerical order): 11, 19, 20, 41, 47 and the PowerBall number itself was 20.

The next PowerBall Plus draw will take place on Friday, 10 February 2023 with an expected jackpot of R3 million.

The unnamed winner received a call from FNB while he was at his business premises, and was advised that he had won over R250 000 and needed to go to the ITHUBA office to process his winnings.

“When I received the call, I thought it was one of the telemarketers. The person I spoke to informed me that I had won, they gave me a reference number and told me about the required documents that I needed to take to ITHUBA. During this call, I was in disbelief, but I remained calm and didn’t panic,” he said.

“After the call, I logged into my online banking to check the numbers, and the rest is history,” he added.

The winner added that since he has now won the PowerBall PLUS jackpot, he will be investing a portion of the money, and will use some of it to plough back into his business.

He will also honour his father who taught him everything regarding the business world and has contributed significantly towards his growth as a person.

“I am a workaholic, and my family hardly sees me as I am always the first one to leave the house and the last to arrive home, my wife and children know that my life revolves around my work,” he said.

The winner started his business in 2016 and currently employs 25 people. Prior to that, he worked for various companies as a workshop manager and in the process, taught himself critical business skills. When he does have a moment of rest, he enjoys watching rugby and soccer at home with his friends.

Regarding winning the Power PLUS jackpot, he said “I believe that I deserved to win as I’ve been playing since I was 18 years old, and I felt that I would one day win a big jackpot amount.”

“We congratulate the latest multi-millionaire for winning the biggest PowerBall Plus jackpot for the year, we are excited that our players can re-define their future with these winnings,” said ITHUBA CEO Charmaine Mabuza.

POWERBALL

The PowerBall jackpot draw required players to pick five main numbers from 1 to 50 and one ‘PowerBall’ number from 1 to 20 for an entry fee of R5.00 per board.

Draws take place every Tuesday and Friday.

The record prize for any lottery game in South Africa came in the PowerBall when one winner scooped an incredible R232 131 750.69 in the draw held on 19 February 2019.

POWERBALL PLUS

PowerBall Plus is exactly the same as PowerBall, but gives players a second chance to win.

When buying a PowerBall ticket, players can pay an extra R2.50 per board to enter the PowerBall Plus draw.

Odds are the same, while prizes are usually slightly lower.

It was introduced on 28 November 2015 by the National Lottery of South Africa.
