Fastjet will introduce daily flights between Victoria Falls and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in July.

The airline currently operates three flights a week on the route, connecting two of the continent’s prime tourist attractions, the Victoria Falls and the Kruger National Park.

Growing tourism flows after the pandemic are driving tourist numbers up in many parts of the world, including Africa.

FASTJET ADDS FLIGHTS

From July the airline will offer daily flights from Victoria Falls to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in Nelspruit.

This is due to increased demand for passenger flights between these popular tourist hotspots.

Briefing the media in Victoria Falls, Fastjet spokesperson Nunurai Ndawana said the airline had been making numerous changes to improve its services.

“In our committed support of Zimbabwean and regional tourism, Fastjet will increase the number of flights from Victoria Falls to Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga in South Africa to a daily service from early July to the end of September 2024,” Ndawana said, per Newsday.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Fastjet currently connects Victoria Falls to the Kruger area on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The airline will operate daily frequencies from early July to the end of September, to accommodate increased tourist flows to the Kruger during the winter months.

The dry winter months are the best time to visit the Kruger National Park, due to improved opportunities for game viewing.

The route is operated with an Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft, which seats up to 50 passengers.

REGIONAL TOURISM HUB

The town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is certainly making bold moves to position itself as a regional tourism hub.

“These two destinations are among Africa’s most sought-after tourist attractions and as Fastjet we are delighted to provide a reliable and efficient flight service allowing tourists to explore more of Africa’s attractions.” Ndawana said.

Fastjet recently decided that it would increase efforts to market Zimbabwe as a tourist destination.

The airline is also trying to grow tourism flows to parts of the country that receive few tourists.
