Kaizer Chiefs could have a Bafana Bafana player at Naturena, but Manqoba Mngqithi and Mamelodi Sundowns might also want Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ MANQOBA MNGQITHI IMPRESSED

After bizarrely sitting on the bench for every single game until the final third-place match against DR Congo, coach Hugo Broos brought in Polokwane City’s Appollis as a substitute.

According to Mngqithi, Appollis could have been given more minutes at the tournament.

“Second half I think we made some very intelligent substitutions,” he said on SABC1, as quoted by iDiskiTimes.

“The Monare change was a big one, the Appollis change was a big one. For me, this boy is one for the future.

“This Appollis, I believe he could’ve done so much more for us had he had more opportunities at this tournament,” he added about the Chiefs target.

“He could’ve even had an assist in this match. It would’ve been nice to see [Jayden] Adams in this match, because I do believe that learning would’ve helped.

“We may have lost the cup but I think we could’ve learnt some lessons,” the Sundowns boss concluded.

KAIZER CHIEFS FAIL TO SIGN BAFANA BAFANA’S OSWIN APPOLLIS

Appollis was a rising star at Cape Town Spurs before moving to SuperSport United and later Pretoria Callies.

The 22-year-old truly made his name this season with five goals and three assists in 17 games. According to reports, Chiefs tabled an offer for the Bishop Lavis-born star, but Polokwane were not pleased.

“Oswin is a top player, undoubtedly one of the best wingers in the country at the moment. Polokwane know that they are going to make money out of him, and they can get a bigger offer than what Chiefs put on the table. To tell you the truth, I’m not really surprised and the thing is that they are not the only ones who want to sign him,” said a source to the Citizen.

“Oswin is enjoying his football and I think that is why he is performing so well because there is no pressure at the club (Polokwane City). I don’t remember when was the last time we (Polokwane City) had a player in the national team. So, some people might not see it, but it’s a huge achievement for the club and they will make sure that they get a best deal for him,” the source added.
